After much work and preparation, on November 22, 2014 SOLAHIS held its annual fundraising banquet at Burnett Baptist Church in Maple Ridge. The banquet room was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the tables were stunningly prepared for an exquisite meal catered by The Sister Act.
Jorge, along with his son Sebastian who was the emcee, led the program. The program included speakers who told of their experiences traveling to Colombia and being with the children. The sponsorship program was updated by Glennis who runs the program. A musical instrumental group played before dinner. There was lighthearted humour, video clips and photos, along with much encouragement to become involved with aiding the children in Colombia.
There were many opportunities to contribute to SOLAHIS. The very popular Balloon Pop Basket sale was sold out within the hour. More than sixty themed baskets were prepared for this event. There were many items to bid on at the Silent Auction Tables, such as, power tools, food baskets, certificates from businesses, etc. During the live auction, items such as a fishing trip, Canuck tickets and plane tickets were bid on.
The banquet raised over $120,000.00 which will be used to run the SOLAHIS Centre in Colombia with $15,000.00 donated to the Education Fund. It is used to help our sponsored children receive post-secondary education. In addition, eleven more children sponsored through the event.
Again, we wish to thank all those who worked so hard to put this fabulous event on, to all the people who came out to the banquet in support of SOLAHIS, and to those who contributed financially. And lastly and most importantly, we thank God who has provided the strength, the means, and the wisdom so we can do what we were called to do!
